As part of the KUMON Group, Kumon Publishing, which provides publications and educational toys, values 'individual growth' the most.

This resonates with KUMON's desire to draw out each person's potential through learning, and it will continue to expand in the future.

1954

Toru Kumon, a high school math teacher, began providing education based on the concept of self-learning to his son, Takeshi, then a second grader in elementary school. He wrote numerous calculation problems on loose-leaf paper for his son. This was the origin of the Kumon Method.

1955

The first Math Center using Kumon worksheets is opened in Moriguchi City, Osaka.

1976

Developed blocks for preschoolers as the first educational tool.

1977

Kumon begins publishing Preschool Workbooks.

1978

Started publishing playing card-sized cards.

1980

Established as the publishing division of the Kumon Institute of Mathematics, it adopted the external name "Kumon Publishing." It began full-scale deployment to bookstores, with the Preschool Workbooks and cards as the main products.

1981

Developed "Magnetic Number Playset 30" and "Magnetic Number Playset 100".

1983

The company name, Kumon Institute of Mathematics, is changed to Kumon Institute of Education.

1984

Began publishing children's books.

1984

Released jigsaw puzzles starting with two pieces.

1988

Became an independent entity as Kumon Publishing Co., Ltd.

1989

Started publishing elementary school study reference books.

1989

Launched "Spinning Ball Tower " (first generation).

1993

Began full-scale publishing of junior high school study reference books.

1999

Inherited the educational toy business from Kumon Institute of Education.

2003

Published the "Train Your Brain" series.

2004

Established Kumon Publishing North America, Inc. (KPNA) in New Jersey, USA.

2018

Kumon celebrates the 60th anniversary of its founding.
